Tata Electronics has appointed Randhir Thakur, a veteran with over 40 years of experience in the semiconductor and precision manufacturing industry, as the new CEO and Managing Director. He was previously serving as the President of Intel Foundry Services and has held leadership positions in several renowned companies including Applied Materials, SanDisk Corp., STEAG Electronic Systems, and Micron Technology Inc.
Thakur is an electronics and telecommunications engineer from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, India, with a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada.Additionally, Thakur has been recognized as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2013, and has over 300 patents in the semiconductor industry. In addition, Thakur holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
In his new role, Thakur will lead Tata Electronics towards achieving its roadmap, with a focus on innovation, quality, and cost advantage at scale. Tata Electronics aims to establish itself as an integral and trusted part of the global electronics industry under his leadership.

Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, expressed his confidence in Thakur’s leadership and his ability to lead the company towards taking its rightful position in the global semiconductor and precision manufacturing industry. Thakur’s deep expertise in ecosystem leadership, process technology equipment, driving M&A and joint ventures, and product development, while collaborating closely with ecosystem partners and customers, will be an asset to the company.
Thakur’s appointment comes at a time when the Indian government is pushing for self-reliance in the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing industry. The industry has been witnessing significant growth in India, with the government offering incentives to attract investments and promote domestic manufacturing.
